Featured Last Week On KXCI:
|(L-R) Gomez, Cheikh Lo, Jolie Holland, La Cerca|
Lots of new tunes coming out of KXCI this week, including the latest from English rockers Gomez who release Whatever's On Your Mind, their seventh album in their 13 year career. With members spread over two continents, they used technology to bridge the distance gap. The results are fantastic.
We also get the first album in five years for the Senagalese sufi troubador Cheikh Lo. His latest Lo, refines his blend of acoustic flavors of West and Central African, funk, Cuban and flemenco which were heard first on his ground breaking Youssou N'Dour-produced debut album way back in 1996.
Jolie Holland's fifth album Pint of Blood, has a loose, live-in-the-studio feel. Holland is an artist who transcends genres and demographics - an audience of 20-something fans of Devandra Barnhardt and Sufjan Stevens to the NPR set embracing a spiritual descendant of classic American music.
Tucson's La Cerca releases Rock n' Roll to the Rescue, a hook-filled indie rock album with subtle nods to 80's guitarists and new wave beats.
