Sufjan Stevens Christmas Sing-a-Long at The Rialto Theatre, KXCI Presents!

Sufjan Stevens brings his Christmas Sing-A-Long concert to The Rialto Theatre on Monday, December 3rd, in a KXCI Presents! show. Sufjan Stevens is jingle-jangling across America, bringing yuletide cheer and sharing reverent hymns and pop carols from his new Christmas box set. His creativeness on albums like Illinois can be heard in his voluminousness output of Christmas music featuring traditional songs, classics and new compositions done with reverential and experimental spirit. All Grinches be forewarned: the show will consist entirely of Christmas music, inviting audience participation, with special guest Sheila Saputo, aka Rosie Thomas.

Lost Bayou Ramblers - Saturday Dec 1st at Boondocks Lounge - KXCI Presents!

One of the best Cajun bands around, The Lost Bayou Ramblers, are playing at the Boondocks this Saturday Dec. 1st,  for an early show at 6pm, KXCI Presents!.  They were nominated for a Grammy this year and won the 2012 Big Easy Award for Best Cajun Band.  They are part of the new generation of Cajun/Zydeco musicians coming out of Southern Louisiana that are carrying on the tradition that their ancestors started many years ago.

It is a real treat that we were able to book them in Tucson as they tour to support their latest release Mammoth Waltz.  The album showcases the shear power and vitality that this band possesses.  It's like listening to Nathan Abshire sing "Pine Grove Blues" but taken up a few notches.  You don't want to miss this show, which will surely tear the roof off the Boondocks.   They will be playing two sets starting at 6pm and there will be Cajun food available, featuring Jambalaya and Shrimp Gumbo.

Bela Fleck & The Marcus Roberts Trio at The Fox - KXCI Presents!

KXCI Presents! Bela Fleck and the Marcus Roberts Trio this Saturday, November 24th at The Fox Tucson Theatre. Bela Fleck is widely considered the world’s premier banjo player. The Marcus Roberts Trio are torch-holders of the classic jazz tradition. Together they create a new way forward in jazz and acoustic music.

While still in high school Bela Fleck began experimenting with playing bebop jazz on his banjo. In 1982, Fleck joined the progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival, making a name for himself on countless solo and ensemble projects ever since as a virtuoso instrumentalist. In 1989 he formed the genre-busting Flecktones, with members equally talented and adventurous as himself.

The Marcus Roberts Trio, led by Roberts on piano, Jason Marsalis on drums and Rodney Jordan on bass, are keen torch-holders of the classic jazz tradition. The mix of these four—Roberts, Fleck, Jordan, Marsalis—create a new way forward in jazz, deeply rooted in the form, while pulling from the extensive backgrounds and music journeys of all the members—creating stellar performances that are exuberant, fresh, soaring, bold, and, of course, eclectic.
