KXCI Presents! ZZ Ward with Yellow Red Sparks and Kaia Chesney, 9 PM Tuesday December 11th at Plush.

KXCI Presents! ZZ Ward with Yellow Red Sparks and Kaia Chesney, 9 PM Tuesday December 11th at Plush.

ZZ Ward grew up surrounded by the Blues. Her father wrote and sung Blues music and ZZ used to perform with him and his band when she was younger. As she got older she gained a new musical love, which was Hip-Hop. She started writing hooks and performing for local rappers and the rest as they say is history. She took her roots in Blues and love of Hip-Hop and blended the two genres to create her own unique sound.

With a strong emphasis on lyrical content, Yellow Red Sparks create music with a timeless feel and continues the tradition of providing an open and honest perspective to raw universal emotions that come with the everyday trials of life.

In 2006 Kaia Chesney released her first five song EP entitled Springtime. After this release, Kaia focused on her musical endeavors with bands Nymphette (former members of Blues) and four-piece Kaia and the Nazarenes, which was later renamed ilamir. Kaia is still currently song-writing and performing in ilamir, and just recorded her first full-length solo album. "Kaia Chesney makes delicately gorgeous indie pop." - Arizona Daily Star "Kaia has a rapturous vocal style that feels like enchanted air bouncing off of canyon walls, with a palpable (but almost deceptive) sweetness." - Tucson Weekly

KXCI Presents! The Mountain Goats Sunday, Dec. 9th @ Club Congress

KXCI Presents! The Mountain Goats and Matthew E. White at Club Congress on Sunday, December 9th 7:00PM
(7PM/18+/$18 adv $20 door)

The Mountain Goats began life in a Norwalk employee-housing studio apartment that had awesome deco tiling on the bathroom floor but little more to recommend the place as a living space. Still, you take what you can get, and it was ridiculously cheap. In this room, equipped with a dual-cassette recorder, John D. started setting some of his poetry to music, using a guitar he’d gotten for a few bucks at a nearby strip mall music store. His idea at the time was that eventually his day job would be “poet.” Young men have all kinds of crazy ideas about what they’re going to end up doing for a living.

As a duo, the two toured at a pace that can fairly be called “relentless” from 2002 until 2007. They made records: Tallahassee, We Shall All Be Healed, The Sunset Tree, Get Lonely. They took to recruiting drummers from their opening acts to play the last few songs with them. And then they met Jon Wurster, and the three took to the road in support of Get Lonely, from Fairbanks, Alaska to Hobart, Tasmania, and a few points even further south. They enjoyed playing together so much that when it came time to repair to the studio again, all three went in. In 2008, the three recorded Heretic Pride, and in early 2009, The Life of the World to Come.

The current lineup includes: John Darnielle, Peter Hughes, and Jon Wurster. They're touring on their on their 2012 Merge Records Release Transcendental Youth.
